Micky & Paul enjoy the view!

Spot of sight seeing at the top:

Finally the clouds clear a bit:

On the way up Snowdon:

More hick ups on the road. A suicidal deer tried to take on our mini bus and nearly won. Dave's heroic driving saved the day but not the deer.
So much for picking up time on the drive. Soldiering on.

WebCams

I found the following WebCams of the peaks so you can see how horrid the weather is:

Ben Nevis - http://www.visit-fortwilliam.co.uk/webcam/
Scafell - http://www.214fells.com/webcam.html
Snowdon - http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northwest/sites/webcams/pages/snowdon.shtml

Ben Nevis is the only one that looks reasonable at the moment.

Ready to go?

Well I'm all packed I think. I hope this mini bus is big because if everyone else has got as much stuff as me then we are going to need a lot of room.

Weather forecast still doesn't look great for Friday going up Ben Nevis but Saturday looks OK. Dry at least. You can't tell from the forecast how low the cloud is though.

Looking forward to starting the walking. Not looking forward to getting up early or all the driving.

Weather links for the 3 peaks

Here are the BBC weather links for the 3 areas:

Ben Nevis - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=3086
Scafell - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1388
Snowdon - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2540

Doesn't look that good, wet and windy, normal for the British summer I suppose.

Schedule for the 3 Peaks

This is our schedule for the 3 peaks challenge:

Friday 27th June
07:00 - Meet at Rob's in Great Wyrley to load up the minibus and get going.
Hopefully be on the road by 7:30.
Stop for Brunch at some motorway services on the M6
Journey to Fort William should take about 8 hrs with a brief stop and have time to eat a proper meal there before starting.
17:00 - Start the climb up Ben Nevis
20:00 - At top
22:00 - Back at bottom
Up and Down in 5 hrs, no problem! Then straight in the minibus and drive down to the Lakes.
It should take us about 6 hrs to drive to Wasdale in the Lake District.

Saturday 28th June
04:00 - Start climb up Scafell
06:30 - At top
08:00 - Back at bottom
Back into the minibus with a quick stop a a suitable shop to get supplies while driving out of the Lakes.
We can hopefully get to Snowdon in 5 hrs including the stop
13:00 - Start climb up Snowdon
15:30 - At top
17:00 - Back at bottom

That's the theory anyway. Then it will be a well deserved shower and straight to a pub in Llanberis for an even more deserved pint or 2.

Sunday 29th June
Get up late, drive back home, sleep for a week.

3 Peaks Team

So this is a list of all the idiots who have decided it is a good idea to spend 24nrs, on a wet British weekend, driving over a 1000 miles to climb 3 mountains just so they can say that they did it!

Rob Caddick - His stupid idea to do this just because he is having a mid life crisis
Dick Abbotts (Me) - I always just follow Rob like some sorry lost sheep.
Tony Caddick - Rob's brother - He's supposed to be the sensible one!
Paul Broadhurst - School mate having the same mid-life crisis as me and Rob.
Tom Hodson - Rob's Nephew. Young enough that he ought to have something better to do with his time. Hasn't he found girls yet?
Chris Jackson - My mate from Nottingham. Old enough to know better.
Mick Bride - Chris's nephew. Fit enough to carry all the fallers.
Chris Stanaway - Almost escaped by saying he had go away to celebrate his wife's 40th but his wife decided she would have a better time without him.
Dave Caddick - Rob's Dad and designated driver. Not doing the walking so at least he'll stay dry.

Hello

The main reason I am starting this blog is that this weekend some friends and I are going to attempt to do the 3 peaks challenge and I thought posting progress to a blog might be interesting to friends and family.

For anyone that doesn't know the 3 peaks challenge is climbing the highest peak in England (Scafell), Scotland (Ben Nevis) and Wales (Snowdon) but I will post more about that later.

I hope that I will be able to post updates and pictures using my mobile phone while we are out on the walk.

Anyway that will do for now lets see if posting this works.
